a year late, but . actually a bivouac has no shelter or tent – you just setup your sleeping bag & hope for the best – i’ve done the Sahale hike that way many years ago, before any improvements. we made our own bivi-sacs which were waterproof bags for our sleeping bags.

Heyyy how bad bad is the drive up there? I do have a high clearance 4wd vehicle but is it that terrible? I’m not exactly an off roader and def not wanna flip my car into the abyss and die lol, I haven’t really found any info on the road going up to twin lakes anywhere! Planning to go this season

In reply to Sydney. The last section of the hike is completely scree, so lots of rock scrambling. But other than that, it is just a well-maintained trail with a lot of switchbacks.
